Bitten

Bitten Was...

Naz Riahi’s dialogical art project. Bitten engaged creators and an audience of laypersons in a conversation around food and food systems. Looking at food through the lens of art, culture and justice we discussed the potentiality of food as an equitable, creative, sustainable space.

From 2015 to 2018, Bitten was executed across three states, with dozens of partners, including MIT Media Lab, thousands of attendees and more than a 100 core conversations. Collaborators included journalists Jonathan Gold and Korsha Wilson, chefs Nasim Alikhani and Kwame Onwuachi and many others, including artists, founders, technologists, farmers, students and activists.

Bitten attendees have described Bitten as:

  • “Inspiring and magical in a practical and unifying way that is desperately needed…I left Bitten different than when I walked in…”

  • ”Bitten was by far the most thoughtful, interesting and diverse event I’ve attended.”

  • ”The day was so well curated, perfectly seasoned and smart….I probably learned more in one day at Bitten than the entirety of my NYU Masters in Food Studies Program.”

  • “The talks touched my heart space, deeply.”
